Finishing help
My friend mrsell63 visited me today at my barber shop. He's been sharing his knowledge with me and also his wonderful variety of stones. Lately I've been doing tons of work on my Norton 4/8k. Sometimes I do a little finishing on the fine side of my barber hone. Today Mr. Sell introduced me to his Shapton 16k, Suehiro Gokumyo 20k and .5 micron chromium oxide treated balsa wood. He was kind enough to leave the balsa as a gift! Another thing he left me with was about 3 or 4 sharp razors that are now even sharper! Like, super sharp! Working with him and whatching each other hone has proved to be a great learning experience for us both.

Josh is a stand-up man, It takes something special for a relatively young fella to take on a barber shop in Wyomissing, PA. ! My personal thanks to mrsell63 for helping my buddy!
Cool!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Thanked: 522Some very kind remarks from Josh at the Wyomissing Barber Shop. Today was about our fourth honing session at the shop. At our second session, Josh honed a razor up through the 8k stone and was able to get a decent shave from it. I thought that was fairly fast progress for only the second honing lesson.
My plan is for him to be able to get a very nice shave from the 8k time after time and then show him how to tweak the 8k edge with various finish stones to get the very best shaves he can produce.
I will have to say that Josh is the best student I have ever had. His good touch and feel is exceeded only by his great enthusiasm. Teaching is fun when you have a great student.JERRY
OOOPS! Pass the styptic please.

Thanked: 6Josh,
I am green with envy. You are one lucky man to be in contact with such knowledgeable and helpful SRP members so close to you. As we have discussed previously I am not so lucky here in Northwest Arkansas. I also have a 4k/8k Norton, and a 12k, but am lacking the expertise to get really produce great edges. I will keep on using the "SRP University" and see if this Old Dog can learn a few new tricks. Everyone I have had contact with on SRP has been great. Keep up the good work.

Gary, consider yourself lucky that you don't live close to me. With a collection of American razors like yours, you may have a hard time getting me to leave your house!
