That is why I use my 60X lighted most of the time, For my eyes it has a good eye relief and is easy to use. My Binocular assembly 'scope is a good thing also at 100X. It is heavy and can be a pain to move around, fine for honing a bunch of razors, and so the wee one is always in use. If I am in the head and want to check an edge on one razor for damage, the portable small scope gets the nod...
YMMV

PS, OP, how many freakin' razors do you want to hone?? There is already a plethora of guys doin' it. So if only a few a year, go with cheap and effective.Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.

Think I'll stick with the cheap scope for now, since I've fiddled with it more I can more or less see what I think I'd need to see. More than anything, my goal is to look and see what changes if any I make when beginning to hone...figure it will give me an idea on what I'm doing, how fast the cutting is, etc. I figure that it if can aid in learning to hone, it is worth it to me anyway.
