Default Escher + AOS shave oil

I was just goofing around and trying to find use for the Almond oil so I slathered the small escher and gave it a go w/ a 7/8 wedge and a 5/8 full hollow.

It's supposedly a water stone but I have seen labels which claim oil can be used. Well - it's true, and in my limited experiment both razors liked the oil better than water

Just sharing the beta (try at your own risk)

    Cheers

Ivo, you may want to try this with mineral oil next time.

    Ivo,
Some early Belgian advertising suggests oil as well, other adverts say no oil. Same with Eschers, etc..... I think you may find though that once used with oil, forever an oil stone it is. Even with a good soaking in solvent water will always bead up on it.

I didn't know about the Belgians

This observation about oil - once you use it you have to stick with it - makes me a bit cautious, though. I am not sure I want to use oil all the time... yet. On the other hand, I now use shave foam on my 4K Norton every time and get much better results than with water only. I wouldn't even want to use the 4K without foam. I'm pretty sure there are oils in the foam, which may affect the Norton but it works for me. I wash it after use and throw it in its bucket (can't believe my wife still hasn't asked me to remove it from the bathroom)

For the record: I actually washed the Escher (don't remember with what) and it seemed the same as before. From what I remember, both the Belgian and Escher do not / cannot absorb water (thus no soaking) so I thought they wouldn't absorb oil either... Have to take a closer look at the stone to make sure

    Thanks
    Ivo

I forgot that my coticule came with a bottle of oil that I've been using on a rougher hone.
