how far off am i from getting this bevel set?
im using the chorsera 1k its flat and the sides have been chasemed.

i have hit the edge of the razor on the hone a few times by dropping the razor

i have been doing 100 circles each side then 15 x strokes but not conventional x strokes i have been leading with the heel and going in a curve bringing the tip to meet back up with the heel at the end of my stroke.

i have seen people do this on you-tube. i am doing this instead of conventional x strokes because i find it difficult to keep the blade flat on the stone when doing x strokes, i always seem to catch the blade on the edge of the stone when performing the x stroke.

how much pressure should i be using on the x strokes? i have been not using much but i could go lighter if needed.

any input would be great thanks in advance guys

I look for a shadow at the edge (dark area) to see if both sides met. Try stropping the blade and see what happens. I've also had blades not cut hair at the 1k level and have moved on to higher grits and still ended up with a great shaving edge IMO. I'm sure someone who's honed thousands of razors will chime in....
I think most people will tell you that it should cut hair at the 1k level....

What is all this doing to the spine? Are you getting uneven wear on the spine? Also, if I'm looking at the pictures properly, it seems as if the heel is catching - if that's the case, it may be lifting the bevel off the hone slightly. These two areas may need attention before you will get the bevel set.

To me it looks like the bevel is not quite there yet. And you are definitely honing into the shoulder (stabilizer) on both sides. That could throw your geometry off until its ground down even with the rest of the plane. To stop from honing the boulder keep your blade at a 45° to the hone heel first. If you look at your edge the dark like on the very edge looks to me like the edges aren't meeting yet.

When you do the 100x circles is that 100 on one side then 100 on the other or are you doing say 30 each side then repeat?

That would be my thoughts too. Leave the tape on the spine, that is perfectly OK to do. Use the 45 degree heel forward to miss honing into the stabilizer at the heel.
