Thanked: 4Dovo La Forme won't take and edge
Hi Everyone, long time reader, first time poster.
I did search the forum for some key words, but may have missed something due to my inexperience in the lingo. If there's something there, I apologize and maybe a Mod can help me move the post. I'll preface this post with the statement that I am still very new to straight razor shaving, and only started back in November. Loving the Carpe Diem I got for the first blade and looking to add to my collection.
I recently purchased a gently used Dovo La Forme. Upon picking up the blade I had confirmed that it had not been honed for as long as the previous owner had it (around a year). It was stropped every use and looked to be in fantastic shape.
I brought the blade to my local shop for honing. They are a well respected shop in Calgary and have honed my Carpe Diem before brilliantly. Unfortunately nobody at the shop could put a shave-able edge on it. It seemed to baffle them. The edge looks good and the edge is straight, but it will not take an edge. They can't seem to see anything that indicates it wouldn't sharpen under a jewelers loop.
Has anyone run into this before? Is the blade in need of a regrind after a years service? I don't know where the other fellow got the blade from, but it certainly didn't look mistreated. I did contact Dovo for suggestions and have been told that they will just regrind and hone it. If there may be something else amiss with the blade, would I just be deferring the issue to a later date.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
