Norton 4k/8k latest results
My learning curve with regards to honing is going well. I hit a new level of sharpness last night on one of my blades. Can't wait to get them all to be like this one. Up til now I have had good luck getting an acceptable shave off the stone. I knew I could do better but was happy with being able to shave without any real problems. But damn.. this latest blade makes the hairs bow down before it and commit seppuku in front of the blade. Not sure why this one came out different. Will try to get more of the blades to this new level now tonight.

I went through many phases of having to rehone all of my razors when I realized a new level of sharpness existed - get used to it!

It's a great hone. I'm amazed that people think they can't get a razor sharp without an Escher or a 16k Shapton. I've recently finished a Joseph Rodgers 6/8 wedge on the Norton 8k and I'm struggling to see how it could be improved - at least at my level of shaving technique. I thought about putting it over the 12k Shapton pro but it's shaving so well I'm going to wait until it starts to go backwards, i.e. fails to respond to stropping - this may take some time

As my lapping and my sense of "feel" improved, I would get better and better shaves from the Norton 4k/8k. I've added a C12k/PHIG recently, but I know I'm not done learning on the Norton.
Keep your pivot dry!

Love my 4/8 great hone. I added a chosera 1k and a Naniwa 12k and I'm getting fantastic shaves..
