Default First time out with a coticule

So I bought a la dressante and it didn't come with a slurry stone... I've done a search and can't find the answers...

I have a synthetic nagura, dmt cards C F and EF, and a cnat slice cut off for slurry on a cnat... I realize I can use any one of these but should I buy a proper slurry stone for my la dressante

I use my well worn DMT D8C most all the time..

There is a pretty cool finishing technique using the actual Coti Slurry stone that takes a ton of time for not a huge difference but it is fun to try..

Check with Rich aka Zib and see if he has any Slurry Stones left, he found me an Excellent one when I needed one

Not that I am advocating it, just repeating a theory, that when you use a DMT on a coti is cuts the Garnet instead of dislodging it. One of the coti theories is that the garnet is friable and start cutting fast and coarse and then breaks down to be smooth and fine. Similar to the Naguras on jnats theory. I however am a coti toddler and could neither prove or disprove this. I actually use the DMT with my other natural stone and find it a very effective way of generating slurry. I just thought I'd put it out there to see what others thought and so if you do get a slurry stone later you can see if it makes any sense to you.

The Garnets do not break down during honing, or when the slurry is created with a slurry stone. Raising a slurry with a DMT will some shear Garnets half, leaving relatively sharp edges. This will only happen to a small percentage of the Garnets, so IMO, it is not a concern.
Also, fresh Garnets are released from the stone while honing. However, the hone will last longer if you use a slurry stone instead of lapping it every time you use it.

You can also get a slurry stone from Jarrod at TSS for $12.

Well I lapped the la dressante coticule I bought from a member, who bought it from coticule.be (coticule vault 2 number 69), with a dmt 325 then used my 600 card to smooth out the lapping a little... Rinsed... Slurry with dmt 600 card and did a basic unicot I saw someone do online somewhere... I was shocked how fast it honed and was melting hairs off the edge... It also helps that I was honing a fili 14! But first time out I'm happy with my purchase... I have a 5x1 thuringian coming in soon too... Can't wait
