National Hone and Soap Company
Just bought a finishing hone from someone who is also a member of this forum. I believe the hone is a Thuringian as does he. Can anyone tell me anything about this company? It was probably produces around the 1920's and the box boasts it is "the only razor hone produced in America" which is probably a lie. It looks, acts and behaves like a thuringian. I can't find anything on them via google. Insights would be appreciated.

Thanked: 4826I'm not sure how it could both be produced in America and a Thuringian. A picture would help to get the discussion going, of both the label and the hone. I'm not at the top of the learning curve, so you've gotten me curious, enquiring minds want to know.

I suspect the claim on the box is a lie. It is a dark stone with some white scratches on it. The slurry is chalky white and it comes with a slurry stone. Pretty sure it's a thuringian. Just curious to know more about the American company and how they acquired it and packaged it for the American market. I'll try to get a photo of it up.

If the Hone was 'produced' in America. It seems that it was implied that it was man made. Yes, you might want to send photos.
Def: make or manufacture from components or raw materials.

Maybe they got the raw material from thuringia; then cut, lapped, and boxed it in Minneapolis?

I think that is probably the case. Raw materials from Germany and finished in US.
