Trouble with a Philarmonica
I touched up three razors using the same method. Coticule with light slurry, coticule with lather, thuringian with slurry, thuringian with water followed by 10 laps on chromium oxide. Two razors turned out great. The philly didn't do so well. They were all in about the same state when I started so I don't understand what happened. Are Philarmonicas more difficult to hone? Do I need to start with a thicker slurry on the coticule? I'm kind of perplexed.

Thanked: 1263I've always found Fili's quite easy to hone or touchup. Try not using the CroOx or less passes on it and see if that helps.

Never honed one myself but have been told they are rather difficult to hone but well worth the trouble.

Thanked: 3795Here's the rub. Are you sure that they were all in the same "state?"
Also, if they just needed a touch up, why did you go so far down as to use a coticule with slurry? In the future you should try to do less first and see if it is enough before you do more. The ten (or more) laps on the thuringian with just water might have been enough.
