Thanked: 2209Another new guy.....
I had the pleasure of meeting another new guy today. His name is Bruce and he located me thru this website. He lives just a couple miles from me.
RodB (Rod Bell) once again came over to assist me in helping get Bruce off to a good start.
Bruce brought over his razor stuff and asked to have one straight razor honed up for him.
This is the razor we cleaned up and honed for him. A nice 9/16 German ground razor.
It cleaned up nicely with just a bit of buffing.
We started with 600 grit sandpaper & raised spine to get to the good steel then went to 1500 sandpaper with a normal honing stroke. Then back to a Chosera 1000 then a Norton 4000, followed by a long Pickerl barber hone ( approx 6000 grit) then to the Norton 8000 & finished on a Escher YG.
It took a very nice edge.
We discussed & practiced stropping, beard prep and shaving technique. Bruce had most of the beard prep and shaving technique already figured out from his experience using DE's. That shortened his learning curve.
I hope to see Bruce again.Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
