Thread: First steps

I'm just trying out my first whetstone on one of my old (dull) razors. Couldn't wait for the 8000 to arrive and I'm amazed how the the old razor is 'waking up' to the 12000 (to quote Lynn). I initially thought that I would have to set it all up from 800, 5000, 8000, 12000 but I'm very pleased with what the 12000 alone has achieved. I lapped it with a 320 wet n dry sheet and a pencil, but needed to do this twice, I think the sticky label which had been on the stone made my first attempt ineffective.
