Default SRD - taped or not?

Does Lynn tape the spine when he hones a razor he sells?

I need to touch up my Dovo best on a 12k Naniwa - do I need to tape it?

    thanks

Had to repost...messed up the vids:

Here's start to finish using the Nani Super Stones, finishing on the Nani 12k:

And here's a video showing the various methods of refreshing a razor:

I've watched both dozens of times, some very good instruction in these video's from Lynn...don't think anything more needs to be said...except to quote, "Have fun!"

Only if requested. Generally I believe Lynn does not use tape on the spine. Unless there is some gold wash or similar you want to protect just freshen it up with 10-15 laps light pressure and go shave.

I went back and resharpened all my blades with tape that way I didn't have to remember which one were done with and without it.

Rmagnus is correct. Lynn has made it clear that he does not routinely use tape. That means that you do not need to use tape for your touchup. However, you can use tape if you wish.

FYI I freshened up my TI recently from SRD with no tape and it's perfect!
