Default Well, another thank you to Lynn!

After reading and reading (and reading) I decided to take the plunge and purchase some hones. I already had a 1k and 3k, but I just got a Norton 4/8k combo as well as a PHIG. I've been shaving for a bit and was beginning to get some "tug and pull" from my razors. This got me thinking about what my approach to honing would be. Now I know I could pay and send the razors out to one of our Homemeisters, but reading Lynn's encouragement to be self-sufficient made me want to try it myself. Worst case scenario, I'd mess up a razor and have to send it to Lynn anyway! LOL

I picked up crappy Gold Dollar cheap as a practice razor. I figured if I could put a shaving edge on that, I wouldn't ruin my nice razors.

Did my research, followed the advice of Lynn and others, then put the steel to the stone today. Dang if I didn't get a good edge!

I went ahead and did my 4/8 Henckels too and it shaved great!

I guess it's official...my Straight Razor Fever is spreading!

    Thanks again to everyone here!

It's an awesome feeling when you nail that 1st edge! I think it' still a good idea to have a pro-hone reference edge just so you know what's possible as you progress.
