It's actually the other way around, they are sharpened and then coated with a thin polymer film to reduce he shaving friction. The steel underneath is good though, that's what gives it the structural stability and it's well sharpened.

The problem is that the cartridge doesn't expose the two sides of the bevels and there are 3 blades too. Even if you can reach with something to remove steel from one side on one blade, you cannot
(1) do it at the correct angle on all three blades
(2) do it on both sides

therefore you can not get a good edge. They are designed the way they are designed for a good reason.

DE blades have both sides accessible and could be honed a little bit, but that doesn't produce edge anywhere close to what we want - just good enough for a poor shave, and given their low cost almost nobody hones them anymore. But you can still find the various hones for them on ebay.

For my Mach 111 I just Palm Strop it before and after each use. Adds 2-3 doz more shaves to each blade.
I check it after each use with my computer microscope for excessive wear. With the Palm Stropping none has shown up. (The PalmStropping before shaving levels off the 'fin'.)

By the way, I also keep it on a magnet when not in use.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. There are a lot of people saying it doesn't work at all, but I just did some googling and found these two sites that seem to have their own solutions. What're your thoughts? Do you think they're just scams?

I think you should give them a try and find out for yourself.

I strop my razors on canvas and leather between shaves and after few months I have to remove some metal with a hone to make it sharp again.

Love the palm! Be the palm! Hey, I palm strop a bit with straights(that is true).

Seriously, though. You may as well shave will one of your sharpened knives, KnifeFanatic.

Please consider at least a Single Edge razor or, a Double Edge razor. Pretty easy shavin' and much better shaves than the Fusion or Mach junk.

I found a GREAT method of prolonging the edge on my Mach III. My last cartridge has lasted 7 months and counting. Of course, I haven't picked it up since switching to a Straight! No regrets and no more money down that rat hole.
