I know what Tarkus was speaking of. Not breadboarding on a hone! We had a discussion about a Boker which was giving him fits . Would not get sharp on parts of the edge. At a point, I recommended that he start over. First dull the edge (breadboard) on a glass bottle and tape the spine. Then hone it lightly on the wet DMT 'til almost pocketknife sharp the length of the blade and move to the 1k on down. It worked for him as it has worked for me. Of course the same thing can be accomplished on coarse hones instead of the DMT. I just feel the DMT is much faster. YMMV
