honing issue

I purchased an old razor with the intentions of using it to learn to hone. I noticed something on it, though. On one side, I had a nice, clean line of water on the hone. When I switched to the other side of the razor, the water was more of a v shape. I got to looking, and that side isn't flat. What can be done about this if anything?

Not much apart from honing it out I don't think
What stone, is it lapped, are you using tape also as it is better for learning for sure

But you did get it to practice honing so practice away if lapped flat

If you have pics others with more experience may be able to answer differently

First check for a frown, if that is ok then do a rolling x-stroke

It had a "smile", but I got that out. It was on a 5000 grit super stone. It's the coarsest stone I have besides the arkies and the DMT cards. I lapped the stone with a blue dmt card, which is the coarse one. I did have take on it until I noticed one side had a high spot.

Why did you change a perfectly good geometry by straightening a smile ?
The spine governs the edge. A curved spine & a straight edge just don't match.

I'm hoping you mean the razor was warped rather than having a smiling profile.

I thought a smile came from either poor honing or personal preference. I was under the impression the blade was supposed to be straight

No. This is a smiling razor . Is that what you mean ?

Very slight smile. Looks like you haven't changed it too much..
You may need to try diiferent strokes to get contact . Magic marker test may be of help.
