If you also feel like practice is a good thing. Make sure you have a least one pro-honed razor handy. Treat this razor as the standard bearer. The goal to which you aspire to hone. I don't even shave with mine.

Practicing is a good thing. I still do that some of the time. Sometimes I'll buy a halfway decent razor off of eBay or somewhere and use it to practice honing. I keep some of them as travel razors since I won't risk losing a really nice one on a three day business trip with a lost bag. And then sometimes I turn around and sell off a few and buy another few new ones just to keep in practice. It takes a lot of repetition to get the handle on honing. You have to get creative to keep moving forward. Then when the comes that you pull the trigger on that new Friodur, you're honing chops are up to the task at hand.
