Thanked: 0AUSSIE HONERS??
Hi could someone please tell me if they know of anyone who will hone straight razors in Australia and what sort of cost I would be looking at as I am new to this and would like to know that I have someone who will make my razor "shave ready" as I am sure that my attempts are less than perfect and there just might be a few other members out there who are looking for the same thing
many thanks to any reply John_S

Thanked: 0Local Aussie Honers
Hi mate,
you are out of luck looking for a straight honer in Oz. Take my advice and learn to DIY. After years of trial and error I suggest a few things which have been said many times on the group fora but which i have confirmed for myself.
Buy a new three inch Norton 4000/8000 waterstone and stick with it.
At least once, get one of the group's honemeisters to do one of your straights.
I got Randy to do two for me and it really gave me a benchmark for sharpness quality.
Enjoy the honing and stropping experience as a thing of vaalue in itself.
Cheers Jack

Hey John,
It's surprising that with so many Australians on the site no one really does honing. I got stuck a while back and Peter (bg42) honed a couple of razors for me. I haven't had a razor honed by Lynn so I can't compare the results with his but they were a darn site better than they were and better than anything I had achieved to that point.
I haven't heard from Peter in a while but he might be worth a try.
Give me a few more months practice and I might give it a go myself.... but you probably can't wait that long eh
Cheers,
David.
