Thread: Thuringen rubbing stone

I have a Big thuringer, but a very small\thin rubbing stone.
My rubbing stone seems slight different than the thuringen stone, is Brighter and softer.

Wath it could be?
Since is very difficult to purchase a thuringen rubbing stone,when I will consume it, where I could find another rubbing stone?Can I buy a small couticule and use it as a rubbing stone?I know the general rule for rubbing stones is thuringen with thuringen and belgian with belgian

Your large stones is actually from Hunsrueck, similar to mine. the small one however is a true Thuringen and they are almost always lighter in color and softer.


I have about 9 pieces of the Hunsrueck that are not usable for razors I may be cutting to make rubbing stones from. I can only get the small thin ones now too.

The Hunsruecks are the same geologic makup, a slate based stone containing garnets. They are harder stones than Thuringens (Eschers) and cut faster but seem to be of the same fine grit size.
