    Default honing progression

I'm thinking of getting a king 1k/6k combo. Mainly for the bevel setting capabilities of the 1k, but then I got to wondering if this would 6k could be a viable part of my progression with my current hones.
My thinking is jump from the 6k to my swaty then finish off on my naniwa 12 ? Then pasted strop then strop.does this sound like it could work (for now) or is the leap from 1k to 6k to big ?

When I used Kings I was sometimes wishing for a 2k between the 1200 & 4k because it's easier on the stones & means less lapping but I never went 1k to 6k tho I believe others might.
I eventually bought Shaptons which have a more variable progression potential. Personal choice I guess.

I feel guilty going from the Nani1k ss to the Nani 5k ss. I agree with OZ about less lapping when we do a smaller grit jump.

That's what Lynn Abrams claims to use on his videos. So, I suppose if it works for him, it should be fine for anyone else.

I'm not a pro but I hone my own gear and I use in this order:
    King 1k/6k-1k bevel set
    King 1k/6k-6k refine edge
Boss barber hone- further refine edge
    The
    C12k- polish edge
    Pasted strop - CrOx
    Strop on leather

It works great for me. The only down fall is the king stones are a little soft so I have times I lap before honing and once halfway through bevel set. But they're very nice stones.

I was referring to lapping frequency. I like to keep the grit spread closer, for example, 1k 3k 5k 8k 10k 12k.

Thanks I do have a c12k also I just figured the naniwa would speed it up a little.

By all means use the naniwa. I am very careful with my money and I bought all my stones for less then a naniwa. So use the best stones that you have. Just remember the bigger the jump in grit between stones the longer it takes to get the "scratches" from the previous grit out.

If you do a good job on 1k (finishing with light hand) there isn't big jump.
Work on 1k until the razor seems to "bite", after you can work on 6k.

I don't know anything about Naniwa but I used Kings a lot.
