Thread: Finally feel like I'm picking up this honing lark!

OK guys, so my full progression is now:

500 shapton glass
1k toishi ohishi
3k toishi ohishi
8k toishi ohishi
12k welsh slate
16k shapton
strop on canvas
strop on leather

although the shave wasn't perfect, the bevel was set so much easier with the coarse shapton, and as i went through the gritsit just got smoother and smoother. need more practice though, as the toe isn't as sharp as the rest of the blade, and i noticed I'm puling the toe off the hone slightly on one part of each up stroke.

no tape, as i find i get so engrossed in getting an edge i forget to change it regularly, and it gets the hones messy and is just plain hassle.

i think the two shapton stones have helped me a lot here, as has the one handed x strokes that start with 45 degrees and then end flat that i saw gssixgun using in a vid.
