Successfully honed my first razor this evening.
I used lapping film as I am saving for stones. Strted with 9um moved to 5um and finished with 3um. I have been working on getting it shavable for awhile just couldn't figure it. So tonight I re evaluated the mount of pressure I was using and went for the lightest touch I could. It is so smooth now it was poping arm hair without trying. Can't wait to shave with it in the morning. Couldn't have done it with out all the great advice found here

Good for you, great milestone that I can appreciate. I have touched up, but haven't had any startling success yet.

Its not sucessful until you shaved with it, you can get a razor to pop hairs at the 1k level, that said looks promissing, update after the shave test?

+1 on that - I had one that popped hairs and would not shave. It took some honing & a lot of stropping to cure it

A piece if copy paper cut to 3 inch width and placed, wet under your 3um film will give you a bit of cushion. Then do 4-8 laps with light pressure and it will polish a third of the bevel from the edge.

Not quite a micro bevel but the same principal. It will give you a more comfortable shave.

A drop of dish soap or 2-3 drops of Smith’s Honing Solution on flooded film also gives a smoother more polished bevel.

I will have to try that. Thanks for the advice. I think I rolled the edge while stopping so will take it back to the film and try that out.
