Thanked: 4827the 12K removes such a minuscule amount of steel it would take forever to remove the tiniest of nicks and more likely would leave you with a very thin and fragile edge.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Had a small nick (but visible and more than evident during the strop/shave procedure..even left a scratch in the strop) in a Dovo once. Worked it out with a coticule. All went well.

Thanked: 3215Great, glad it worked for you.
New 12k’s are flattish and do not take too much to get completely flat, a sheet of 320 and a flat surface will get you there and you should flatten it initially. This may be the cause of the chip.
You should remove the chip, it will cut you. Microscopically it will feel uncomfortable and may get larger if left un-repaired. It is also doing the same thing to your strop and will scar the leather.
Depending on the chip size a layer of tape and a few laps on the 12k may remove it, creating a micro or secondary bevel. If a few laps on the 12K do not remove it, you will have to drop down in grit size to remove it.
TI’s can be prone to chipping.
