Thanked: 13245With the razor out of the scales yes you can come close to testing a spine / razor for straightness
The Calipers used along the spine for uniformity is the first test, and even this can be deceiving when checking a Smiling blade
Testing against a known flat surface by pressing down on the pivot hole can show deflection and twist when sighting the blade correctly
The hardest to test is actual grind thickness in regards to uniformity, we don't see this talked about often on here because once the bevel is solidly set it is no longer an issue, but it does effect the bevel set and the Hone wear..
I have several threads on here about how to do these tests and some pics, will try and find you the links

I am interested in the test threads, on a side note I have been married for 16 years to the one woman. She is a bit like my honing, takes time, patience, is challenging but worth it in the end. She also puts up with my s*&t.....
A good lather is half the shave.

Thanked: 68I'm particularly interested in the best way to fix an issue with an uneven grind. When you think about it, with an uneven grind at the edge this would make your theroetically perfect spine absolete. Because you won't make contact with the edge correctly, thus throwing off your contact with the spine... and then everything falls down the rabbit hole... wait, was it the chicken or the egg...
