    I like the synergy of using the two Norton stones to lap each other. ie using the 220/1K to lap the 4K/8k.

    So if you use the 220/1K to lap the 4K/8K, I'm curious as to what is best to lap the 220/1K?

    I think someone said either use the Norton "flattening stone" or use 220 and/or 600 grit wet and dry sandpaper on a flat surface to lap the 220/1K Norton. Then use the 220/1K to proceed to lap the 4K/8K Norton.

    I just need a little more clarity, but I hink I'm getting the picture...

    Tony,

    The 220/1K stone doesn't need nearly as much lapping as the 4K/8K. My 1K doesn't really wear much. I lapped it once when it was new with 220 grit sandpaper, and again after about two months of significant use. Plus the lapping on the 4K will flatten it somewhat.
