Will it hold that edge? I love two of my Gold Dollars, and one is my favorite shaver but I do have one that hasn't come around and wont seem to sharpen or hold the edge. Glad to see another person here that enjoys theirs.

I have 5 GD's I couldn't see subjecting a nice vintage blade to the brutality of my early honing attempts. Plus they are fun to modify. So far i have 3 that take a great edge. I'm using them to test hones now. It's been a long learning process. One I think I may never finish, lol. Keep at it, the satisfaction you get when you have that "Ah ha!" Moment is worth the effort.

I'm not surprised you got a fine edge from airportcopper. He has good stones and knows how to use them.

I use my GD to practice honing so it usually will only get 1 or at most 2 shaves before practicing again. The shaves, however, are really fine. Others can comment on how long it will hold an edge compared with other steel. Why don't you keep shaving and stropping and let us know your honest opinion?

IMO they are great razors to learn to hone one .. Some say u have to shorten the heel and toe or do certain mods to hone em..to each there own lately I can't hone them right out of the box. Just have to modify your stroke .. Rolling x strokes work great ..circles x strokes..but they are capable of holding an edge

I had 4 Gold Dollar's but only 2 two can keep a nice edge. I threw the two that couldn't keep an edge. The other two are fine shavers. The one I use almost everyday. I agree with the other guys that say they are good to learn to hone on. I have a combo Coti/BBW stone. I only use this hone and get comfortable clean shaves. GD's aren't the best razor but if honed right they can at least shave.

If you want a great lesson - PM @cudarunner. He lent me a few Friodurs to try out. Changed my shaving life!! I'm now up to 3 Friodurs.
