Have you tried cleaning it as suggested to see for sure one way or the other?

I had a lot of old kitchen knives that had been used hard and never sharpened. They had almost zero for a bevel. I used my DMT325 and I also thought I ruined it but after a careful look under the mic I cleaned it and it is like new. I doubt you could wear out a DMT

You don't wear out the diamonds, but you can lose them by undercutting the relatively soft substrate that holds them in place. Lots of people here have experience with this.
