Default Torrey with teeny bevel, a problem?

So I have a Torrey that is just a smidge over 5/8". I am very surprised that the bevel is VERY narrow, probably 1/2 or less of a normal bevel. I know there's no such thing as "normal" width and that it is based on the spine and width of the blade, but this thing is teeny. It's so small I can't measure it. From the attached pics, can anyone tell me why this is? There is some spine wear but doesn't that normally widen the bevel?

I did a Norton 1K/4K/8K, Naniwa 12K progression and hairs are a-poppin' with the HHT. I haven't had a chance to shave with it yet.Name: PB260472.jpg

Is it going to be a challenge to keep the edge sharp with use?

As I've said before, I'm a very novice honer (maybe half a dozen blades). Is this actually common and I just don't know it because I'm a newbie?

The good news is that this has a smile and thanks to you guys previous help on another post, I handled the smile with no problem!

Yes, you are making much ado about nothing. It will be fine.

The bevels are strictly a matter of geometry. They are determined by the amount of steel needed to be removed to establish meeting planes defined by the spine and the edge.

Yes, it would if the blade width (distance from spine to edge) did not also proportionally wear as well. Also, as the width narrows, the thickness of the blade will increase and this too will cause the bevel to widen.

    Yup. Already covered this!

I don't think it will matter at all. The edge is the same regardless of the width of the bevels.

Yes, novice honers are quite common.

Your bevel is thin because the blade near the edge is thin. For this reason, relatively little steel needed to be removed to set the bevels so this resulted in minimal bevels. This is strictly a matter of the grinding of the blade and you will find that there are all sorts. A really thin blade will be more likely to give a feather squeegee comfortable shave.

Of course you hit it directly on the head. The shave this morning was superb and smooooth. Those Torrey blades deserve all the accolades I've read about them on this forum.

Have you calculated the bevel angle. For a given grind a more obtuse bevel angle will result in a narrower bevel reveal. Taping reduces the bevel reveal for the same reason. Nothing wrong at all with a narrow bevel reveal though, IMO it is preferred but not at the expense of a larger bevel angle.

I don't think that is unusual - although some razors do have a much larger bevel. It's not uncommon for a razor with the grind such as yours to have a bevel that is barely visible to the naked eye and that requires a loupe to see it properly.
My service is good, fast and cheap. Select any two and discount the third.

Much is made of having a narrow consistent width bevel but so long as the bevel angle is +/- a couple of degrees of ideal the razor will shave well. Same goes for a wavy bevel as opposed to a consistent width bevel. A consistent width bevel, although desirable, is not totally necessary for the razor to shave well either. I have a few razors with fairly wide and wavy bevels that shave well even thought they look ugly.

Yea, it’s the grind. Nice razor should be a shaver.

    Very nice
there are some (worshipers from the guild of the micro bevel) on here that would kill for such a narrow bevel LOL
the apex where they connect is the only thing that matters I think
    Saved,
    to shave another day.

I have not calculated the bevel angle. What is the equation?
