Minus Hone and Razor
Today I am honing a beautiful razor, a minty classic , an awe inspiring 8/8's. What i realized today was the tension I was holding in my body. My focus is on the hone and razor but my body was standing on the high board at the public pool for the first time. Once realized, I relaxed, and having done that, found that more energy, focus if you will, was available for the actual task at hand. My next effort will be toward finding the optimum height for the apparatus of honing. Right now I am using kitchen counter height which is doable but definitely not optimum as it causes me to spend a little too much time in an odd bend. I figure all this is personal and somewhat related to a person's height.
Probably there are experienced razor honers out there that can hone on their backs laying in a hammock. But I am wondering if anyone has worked on this or even thought it was important? I did a quick search in the box but may not have used the correct words."Call me Ishmael"

What in the world possessed you to take your hone & razor to the public pool?

Thanked: 734I find that sitting at the kitchen table or something similar is the best position for honing. Sometimes I'll work at the counter if I am only doing a couple laps to adjust something. Otherwise I find it just too uncomfortable to make consistent passes over time.

Thanked: 1936Honing height is important for me. I built a honing table just for this.

Hey bill,
i refreshed my Bruno custom about 3 days ago, and i was so worried that I might have mucked it up (it has quite a big smile and is about 17/16") that I only used it this morning, it turned out fine in the end.
I was standing at the Counter too. Eventually i will finish my shed and have a proper workbench set up. But until then I will be honing amongst the breakfast thingsBread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Thanked: 1184I have made 3 workbenches/hone tables. All set to the most comfortable low, while sitting down.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Guess I forgot to mention that I am a stander to hone......I do enough sitting......I'll always stand until I can't stands no more.
