I hadn't even considered using the front but now that I look at it there is an X pattern on the clear side !!

So it IS a two sided hone??

That one at the link you posted sure looked like it had been used on the front.

Anyone else have thoughts on this???

Glass hone backed with coticule ?

Here I thought I was cool because I finally had a coticule and now I could hone with the big dogs.

I feel like I've found something that has been missing from me my whole life and I never even knew what it was.

Well, after further investigation(scraping it with a knife) it would appear that this is either the softest glass in recorded history or not glass at all.

I can gouge the "glass" with a butter knife and it doesn't sound like glass when struck with various objects.

It has that hollow "THUD" of plastic and not the sharp "TINK" of glass.

Could still call it glass, just like the linen part of the strop isn't usually linen.

I've got a barber hone that looks like glass but is soft and easily scratched or shattered. Wierd hone, but it works well. Not the same brand as yours, but they could be related. Mine doesn't have the odd material glued to the back, but on yours it may have been glued on to keep it from being so slippery if your hands are damp (like I said it's easily shattered).

Edit: Mine is colored (not clear), but it looks like glass and feels like plastic, and can be scratched with a fingernail. Mine is also two-sided but it's the same material on both sides only different grits (accd to the instructions).
