Thread: How many razors

After honing a razor for the first time when you shave with it how many razors do you take to the sink. When I hone a razor and the first time I start to shave with it I take another one to the sink with it. if for some reason my honing isn't quite up to snuff I have one right there to finish with. just wondering if i'm the only one that does this.

I always take two razors, if one is not shaving well I'll switch to the other.

When I am at work I hone in the bathroom so sometimes I test shave and go back to the finish hone, at home I hone in the kitchen so when I go for a test shave at home I usually have a backup handy.

It is weird, that! Sometimes if I am unsure of one, I will strop a known-good for quick backup. Never fails the ones which might fail will be ones I was certain of and did not strop a backup. In that case, standing there all in a lather, I just grab one and shave.
Never a DE, though. I like to compare one which is right to the one which came up short. It seems to tell me what the course of action will be. Like: 'How bad can it be? OH! THAT bad!' !

Depends...no I don't mean inner protective garments for my advanced age.

I keep at least a Coticule and a blue/green Thuringian at the sink in the bathroom. I often may hone more than one razor and they go there to be shave tested. Usually my technique is good enough that I do not need a back up or I may add a couple strokes to my blade. I have a couple pasted strops and other hanging strops. And I have tape and a scissors nearby.
Within easy reach there are usually about 50+ blades that i have already tested and may easily shave with. Nice to live alone!

If shave testing, I take all I am testing ( have done up to 6 In 1 hit ) and a known backup
if all fail the back up is used to finish and the failures go back to the for honing list for touch as required

I only take the one I have just honed.
However the apartment I live in is not exactly huge, so I'm not actually more than 10 paces away from another razor.

Same here!

Usually just the one if it's a refresh. I did on from bevel set the day before yesterday that I wasn't sure would be good so I took a back up.

I only take 1 razor.
