    Default Rolls Razor

I'm able to get some nice edges honing my rolls razor ..really not difficult once you remove the edge guard. Question besides the strop provided by rolls has anyone figured out how to strop this on a hanging strop. ?? The slapping of the blade on the strop sometimes can cause chips on the edge. I guess I can slow down while using the rolls strop.. But would really like to give this edge some linen and leather to see the potential.. Btw I absolutely love the shave it gives.. Wondering why another razor company hasn't produced the same idea...

I have seen someone strop a Rolls blade on a hanging strop. Some razors of the Rolls style come with a small rod for this purpose. I'll try to find a pic.

Something like the second pic in this thread.

I have had excellent results honing with a piece of tape (or two?) on a couple of nasty blades. It makes the bevel set (and subsequent grinds) steeper thn without and, with the boost from tape, the edge has never been thin enough to chip when stropping on the machine. Look how high the blade spine is off the hone/strop when it's on the machine; you need tape to keep from grinding the edge too thin is my thought.

When using the machine hone on a relatively good blade or honing rusty ones on stones (with tape) and then stropping on the machine I have gotten tremendously good edges that shave as well as the best straight razor or better if you condsider the size of the blade - it's like a sportscar on the neck, throat and jawline.

Yes, that is how I hone my Darwin but iirc the Rolls Razor blades are not threaded at the sides to take a handle like that.

If I am remembering correctly there was a sleeve on the rod that the spine of the blade is slid into.

Many of the blade stroppers that come with older double hollow ground razors will work well.
