Thanked: 237I had heard less than favorable reviews about as equally as good reviews. They seem to have two tiers of quality, and I assumed that the higher tier would be superb quality. Maybe the blade quality is identical, and the extra cost is for the scales. Either way I could have bought another huge W&B FBU or a nice Fili if I could go back in time. Hopefully other new guys, or experienced guys looking for a new TI can learn from this thread...

Neil,
Your choice of nouns with respect to the described issue is spot-on sir.
Cheers, Steve

Thanked: 2Great insight into the purchasing of new blades. I never thought of why vintage razors seemed superior Neil, but that they made the "cut" (PUN!) seems altogether plausible.

Thanked: 237We are not allowed to offer free honing on the forums. I'm already going to have the issue taken care of, thanks for the offer.

Thanked: 1I owned a 6/8 TI Sparticus i couldnt get on with until recently,i had a problem getting it sharp enough particularly the tip area,it never shaved under the nose all that well either.I have come to the conclusion, right or wrong
that on new TI razors the steel used or temper applied render them "too rigid, ungiving"until some time and a lot of stropping and use has taken place, anyhow that same razor has turned up trumps to such an extent i have purchased a new 7/8 TI.
I have to admit the Sigma 11 select 10000 has made sharpening harder steel razors a lot quicker,so maybe thats what made the difference?
I proceeded to set a working bevel on the new 7/8 TI,when i looked at the bevel they wernt parallel, nor the same on each side,if i hadnt had experience of my 6/8 Sparticus i would have been a bit disappointed,as i had a similar experience with that razor.I think/know all new razors improve with use provided the owner is good with a strop/hone
