    Default Refresh a Razor

Been refreshing my razors by using the paste on the canvas strop. This has been working well. No issues. I would like to buy a stone for more aggressive refreshes in the future. Thinking of buying off Ebay:
    1. Naniwa SP491 12000 Grit Honing Stone by Naniwa
    2. Steelex D1091 Sharpening Stone Holder by Steelex
    3. Norton Flattening Stone for Waterstones, 3/4" x 3" x 9" in plastic case

Any comments of suggestions to the list? I am sure there are lots of opinions. I just want to make sure I am not making any big mistakes.

    thanks

Either a good Barber's Hone (Swaty or Frictionite are considered the best. Swaty seen more often than Frictionite on eBay. Frictionite much more expensive.) Or the Naniwa SuperStone 12k. No need to soak, works well with few laps and reasonable priced.

That appears to be a 12k Naniwa Super Stone and should be fine. The stone holder is very nice but not absolutely necessary, and the flattening stone is unnecessary. Just use w/d on plate glass (which is what you'll likely use to flatten the flattening stone) to lap your hones.

    Cheers, Steve

Yes the 12k Super Stone is a great stone and the Steelex holder will get the stone off the table for easier honing.

Pass on the Norton lapping stone, they are a PIA and a good diamond plate is a much better and versital solution.

The DMT has been the gold standard, but any good, flat diamond plate will work.

Buy the Naniwa 12K & the holder...pass on the flattening stone and get a DMT8C for lapping and flattening.

    Update
    I bought the following:
    1. Naniwa SP491 12000 Grit Honing Stone by Naniwa
    2. Steelex D1091 Sharpening Stone Holder by Steelex
    3. DMT 8 Dia-Sharp Continuous Diamond Coarse

Took my 5/8" Ralf Aust for a spin on the 12K and finished up with some Crom-Ox. Wow!! By far the sharpest and smoothest shave I have had over the last year. I should have done this months ago. Thanks to Lynn's videos I was scared but confident when putting my razors to the stone for the fist time. Again, thanks for the advice.
