Thanked: 0Yellow coticule or not?
Traditionally, I've used a Norton 4k/8k, and a yellow coticule for my honing. However, I ordered and just received a Naniwa SS 12K and I'm wondering if there is anything to gain by leaving the coticule in the progression or if I should just jump straight from 8k to 12K. Obviously, I'm assuming the coticule is not as fine a grit as the 12K. Thoughts?

Thanked: 13249IME I use one or the other after the 8k depending on the feel of the razor..
This is something that you really have to decide, I haven't honed with your Coti so I can't say for sure
I would not go Coti - 12k Naniwa just wouldn't be any advantage that I can see

Thanked: 3795Soon you will have both, so try both. I agree that you should use one or the other, but go ahead and try all permutations and see if you can feel any difference.

Thanked: 246You could also hone up to the 12k then do a few coti laps to tame the edge a bit.
