    Default Yellow coticule or not?

Traditionally, I've used a Norton 4k/8k, and a yellow coticule for my honing. However, I ordered and just received a Naniwa SS 12K and I'm wondering if there is anything to gain by leaving the coticule in the progression or if I should just jump straight from 8k to 12K. Obviously, I'm assuming the coticule is not as fine a grit as the 12K. Thoughts?

IME I use one or the other after the 8k depending on the feel of the razor..
This is something that you really have to decide, I haven't honed with your Coti so I can't say for sure

I would not go Coti - 12k Naniwa just wouldn't be any advantage that I can see

Soon you will have both, so try both. I agree that you should use one or the other, but go ahead and try all permutations and see if you can feel any difference.

You could also hone up to the 12k then do a few coti laps to tame the edge a bit.

Now you have the 12k you can experiment and see where roughly your coti finish falls in the grit/progression scheme of things.
