    Default Norton nagura or not?

I am going to order a norton flattening stone from Howard because I am fed up with the sandpaper method of lapping. It leaves grit all over the sink and it goes slowly as well.

Then I started wondering if I should order the norton nagura as well?

Do you use it to raise a slurry on the 8K side?
Until now I just rubbed the 8K with my 1K to raise a slurry instantly, so I was wondering if there is much point to the nagura.
I am on a tight budget atm, so I don't want to buy something unnecessary.

I go at the hones just as they are without a nagura to create a slurry.

Do yourself a favor and get a shapton flattening plate. Just add water and grit and you can flatten a norton so warped a marble rolled down it would pick up 20MPH. Flatten and polish in a few minutes. The best investment I ever made.

I have a nogura but only use it on my 12K japanese stone. I never needed it on either the norton or the coticule.

Hmmm. I just had a look at the price of the Shapton flattening stones. I think I'll settle for the 25$ norton stone. Thanks for the tip though.

If it's good enough for Lynn, it's good enough for me
