Thanked: 41. OK, find a nice small cardboard box that both will fit into.
2. Wrap them in something soft so they won't move around in the box.
3. Tape the box closed.
Now this is the important bit so pay attention.
4. Write my address on the box
5. Take it to the post office and post it.
Just kidding. The coticule shouldn't need it afaik but you should be able to how flat both are by holding them against something flat/straight by any shadows, holding a bright light behind them, the suction and use. At least that's how I tell if stones are flat (as well as marking the surface with pencil and lapping to see where the stone is wearing.)

Huh?
The coticule and the Norton are both flat when shipped.

Well the stones came yesterday. I started today with a Spike 4/8 wedge. I have had little luck. It would not even shave the arm hair when I started but now it will barely. I watched Lynn's video again and don't know if I over honed or what. I started again with a 4-5, 2-5, 1-5 and 10 and the coticule. Stroped and still not too keen of an edge. what now? I hate to touch my old boker untill I can master the spike.

I don't even own a 4/8k I do all my honing on the coticule and it's just fine. But working with the Norton might mke it a lot faster.

Thanked: 0Well, wedges are supposed to take a fairly long time to hone because you have a lot more metal to remove. Fortunately I've never had to hone one, but I sure wouldn't mind adding one to my collection. But it still sounds like your razor isn't quite sharp enough. You might want to do the thumbnail test to make sure you've got a good edge on it.

Thanks for all of the help thus far. I put away the wedge and got out a hollow ground blade (see newbies forum). The wedge did finaly get sharp but had a couple of small chips in the edge I will have to spend a lot of time with the 4K or get a 1K. LX I can't imagine honing an old dull razor on a coticule. I would run short on patients.
