The Bevel Shape
Should the bevel be uniform across the razor or is there benefit to having a bevel that is thin in the middle and widens towards to tip and heel? Straight across vs a circular type shape.

Thanked: 0I've heard it both way.
-As long as there is a bevel across the whole edge, you're okay
-You must have an even bevel, the Razor gods say so.
I'll wait for a honemeister to chime in

Regardless of the shape of the edge the bevel should be even right along. Small deviations don't necessarily mean a bad shave though.
I like the convex or 'smiling' blades to shave with a bit better than flat edges.

Thanked: 108I have a wedge with a very wavy bevel and it came that way from the honemeister who reground it and honed it. It shaved great. I did notice that it lost its edge rather quickly, and I've had a hell of a time getting it to take a good edge again. But other factors seem relevant there, including my own limited skill with wedges.
But in general, does a wavy bevel affect anything beyond aesthetics?

Thanked: 346If the bevel is wavy because the blade is wavy then the only way you're gonna get an even bevel is to make the edge wavy too. I'd rather have straight bevels and a straight edge than a pretty bevel.

Thanked: 108Even blade, nicely reground TI, even edge...but wavy bevel. Not a smiling waviness, either, just irregular, with wide patches and narrow patches and even the two sides of the blade don't match.
Have you ever known this to cause problems?
