Thread: New DOVO ... Now what?

So just to update this I was doing 45 degree swooping x strokes on my coticule with slurry but will probably have to drop down to the 1k. The very very tip of the razor remain: with black ink on it. I will however wait until I get some help from Mcbladescar! In a couple weeks. My first DOVO shave will have to wait. but I know when it happens it will be awesome

So today I wasn't expecting to get a new razor. I was searching the net and found someone selling their Unused DOVO 6/8 best quality. I had to rub my eyes and look at the price again. He only wanted 40 bucks. For a brand new DOVO!!! $40 CAD no shipping and off I was rocketing down the 407 at 140km/hr. So I got home and have been admiring what a solid snag I got. The guy is actually my hero. The gas money and 407 toll charges aside I think I came out with a rockin' deal. I was sad that I missed the deal on the T.I.'s but not so much any more.

Now to stop my rambling I don't know if anyone honed it after the factory honing so I've got my trusty coticule with me.

Would you guys suggest just doing some strokes with water only to "finish" on my coticule then a few strokes on Cr0x? Then strop it up and test shave it or should it be ready to go.

I had a new dovo, same one, not professionally honed, and learned to shave on that factory edge, with just stropping alone. Though I was getting pretty good shaves really. Finally after about a year I was starting to think this could probably be a better shave. So about 15 passes on the 8k norton, and the shave was noticeably improved. A few weeks later I bought a loom strop with 0.5 crox on one side. After using that the hair was pretty much just falling off, very little resistance if any. If that helps.
