    Default Sharpening help

I wasn't sure where to post this, but...
I was hoping to find someone in my general region (Shreveport, LA) who wouldn't mind helping me out with a razor. I haven't mastered the hone technique to sharpen it and wanted to try to find someone a little closer who might be able to help before sending it off to OH to Lynn so that I'd have a little less turn around on it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys.

So are you looking for coaching, or just a closer honemeister to hone it for you?

I grew up in S'port, my parents still live there. Unfortunately I don't anymore or I'd be glad to help you either way

To be honest I'd like both, but I'd just be happy finding someone who could put a shaving edge on this razor. And yes, many many people who grew up in shreveport, went under the wire and got out. ;p Or at least that's how it seems some days.

What kind of razor (brand, grind, vintage) do you have?

    ah Hah!

The seeker of the closer honer. Once known please let us all know how we may all seek our closer honers. I think I need one in MN unless I can demystify the process or un-hamhand my approach.

If the good Mr. Abrams Straight and Wet conference actually happens and actually happens in Chicago, many of us near or on the frozen tundra will greatly benefit from the experience.

If he hasn't contacted you yet, one of the resident honemeisters is a guy named Joe Chandler. He lives in southern LA and is quite capable of honing that razor right up for a modest fee. Send him a PM (you can find him in the member's list on the forum menu bar) and let him know what you need.

Thanks, I've imed him and told him you sent me so he can blame you later for me bothering him.

As to what kind of razor it is, it's a Dovo 5/8th polished stainless steel razor.
    Thanks for you help MP

this brings up an interesting idea..of course it would be up to the honemeisters to make the ultimate decision lol. How about a directory on the boards listing the various honemeisters and their locations, and whether they would be open to instructing us newbies in the art. Might be an interesting concept...I know I'll soon be looking for someone to hone the Challange Cutlery straight that I recently picked up....anywaay, it's just a thought lol.
