Shout out to Mcbladescar
So I wanted to say a big thank you to Mcbladescar for spending 3 1/2 hours of time on a Saturday helping me with honing.
What a huge help that was.. Honestly the most helpful thing since I started straight razor honing. I got great feedback and tips, pointers and found out what worked for me. It was great to have someone there who can tell you it's okay to move on or that you're doing it right keep going and explain why. It wasn't a "do this" , it was a " you do this because" and the explanations were great.
Just to have someone to pass the experience on in a one on one situation boosted my confidence and let me know I had all the right things ( and even a hone that was wrong) and could achieve sharpness.
Some great things I learned were:
1: Lap your finishers with a higher grit the DMT DIA-FLAT.
2. Confidence is key.
3. Make sure your hone isn't one that readily sheds grit. (Ex. I had a 1k that was very gritty and not suited razors)
4. Ask or you shall never receive. Let me elaborate.
You've got to
a) ask for help if you need it and
b) ask questions about the different processes and why they are done. You will learn lots this way as long as you listen with an open mind.
5. There is only so much you can learn from the Internet. Sometimes you need some hands on training.
6. Once you can sustain an even stroke, it's all progression from there.
7. There's many different ways to skin a cat, and that has been reinforced today.
8. You've got to figure out a progression that works for you and that could change from razor to razor!
All around a great day and thanks again for the hospitality, time and help Mike. I will achieve many great shaves from the knowledge and confidence I gained today. These kinds of things are why I love the SRP community.

Thanked: 1184This is what brotherhood is all about. To bad we couldn't train the rest of the world to act this way. Hey maybe we are. 1 member at a time :<0)
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

This is the # 1 Reason that I like this forum/MEMBERS HELPING MEMBERS!
As I've posted time and time again, you can spend months reading and watching videos but a few hours with One on One will teach you more than you could have gathered in all those months!
Enjoy the RideOur house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

This is what we like to see, but if you're going to enlist help from others you may need to change your screen name!
He saw a lawyer killing a viper on a dunghill hard by his own stable; And the Devil smiled, for it put him in mind of Cain and his brother Abel.

Feeling the bromance guys... one on one time is invaluable and highly under valued.
