    Default Kamisori touch up

Would a Naniwa 12k be acceptable for touching up a kamisori?or do I really need a natural stone. My gut tells me it does not matter, but wanted to check first. Thanks.

The 12k Naniwa will work just fine for the touch up. You can strop on a pasted bench strop after the hone and before a hanging strop.

    Sure will
I used a 1-4-8-12k to chrox & Ferox on balsa then felt & bridle hanging strop to finish just last week worked fine great shave
I only went to the 1k as my Azuma as it had some minor wear issues to correct.
I used a 10:1 ratio for the correction work then went back to Glens 7:1 from the 4k up

Yes, you must use a Japanese natural or a Samurai will come to your house to exact revenge-Har har.

The 12 K will be fine.

A gentleman just posted this on another forum and it has a great method of assuring flat and full contact of the entire shallow relieved side of a kamisori. That is by using a piece of thin three ply plywood on the top surface. Been a problem for me on some old Kamisoris.

Yes, that is what I was worried about...waking in the middle of the night with a ghostly figure standing before me, calling out revenge for insulting his ancestors because I honed with a synthetic stone.

Though this brings up another question. For touch ups, could you just use a 1:1 ratio?

Watching Richards video the lads is doing a 20-40:1 ratio on the Kamisori
I think the main reason for not going 1:1 is to minimize un-necessary wear on the face which is the good blade steel

When I was honing one of the two kamisori I used for the pass around it was so far off I used a wood shim I attached to the blade so I could do corrective honing to it.

What is the purpose of the coin on the hand @ 8:00? If the coin falls off you are turning your wrist too much?
