Rolling X
Plain and simple question. If i hone my Dovo best quality 6/8 with a rolling x stroke. What will this do to the razor over time and will it give me the best edge?

If you only take off the metal necessary to get the edge where it needs to go, then you'll remove the least amount of metal possible and maintain the best shaving edge possible. I like the roll because it accounts for inconsistencies.
Honing will always reflect the honer; wherever you take off more steel than needed, there will be less steel than there could have been.

Depends on the profile the blade has to start with. If it has a slight, or more, smile, the rolling x is the way to go. If it is a straight profile from heel to point it might be just as well to stick with a normal x stroke.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Check out this 4 page PDF from the 1961 barber manual (SRP library) It has illustrations and text that will help you out with maintaining, and even improving, the blade profile. See the illustration on page 24.
