Default Mentor in the Columbia, Maryland Area?

OK, I am throwing in the towel.

I have been honing for several months, but cant get consistent bevels. Some are fine, and I get good shaves off of them. Some LOOK fine, but dont pass any of the usual tests. And I am just starting to figure out what problems are on blade, and how to effectively hone them, but I have a long way to go.

I have a nice set of stones, so I know it's me.

So I am hoping I can find a honing mentor somewhere in the vicinity of Columbia, Maryland, who might be willing to spend some time with me to get me onto a good foundation to work off of.

    I'll bring the beer.

Any kind soul out there willing to give this poor guy some help?

    Thanks!

I checked the "Local Help" list and the only two near you haven't been active for awhile.

Local Help - Straight Razor Place Library

You might try this link and search by location. Be creative because it searches what members have input. Might be a city name, state, or even an abbreviation.

Hope you find a honing knowledgable member in your area willing to help.

    Regards,

    Howard

I did the same type of searches and did not find any joy either. Aldwyn, how far are you willing to travel?

    Are you able to Skype?

One option would be a little weird but do-able. I could send you a few razors, you could set the bevels, mail them back to me, and I could make a video of each bevel like the one below. You could just mail the beer with the razors!

Thanks, Howard! I indeed do the search suggested, but am coming up with no mentors. Lots of folks in Maryland, though!

And I swear, I searched for the local help page (though kept looking for "mentor") and couldn't find it! So thanks! That does give me two leads within a couple hours drive, which I will follow up on.

I am hoping to find someone within a few hours drive, but, desperate times call for desperate measures. If I cant find what I am looking for then, it may be longer with a hotel stay.

I have never used Skype before, and while I am not sure that will be the best method for me, I might take you up on that. That bevel in the video looks rough!

    Thanks, guys!
