Have always been interested in the Whaling buis. of old,New bedford,Nantucket.
Just finished a book that states each ship had a mate that was in charge of keeping, Harpoons,Lances and blubber spades razor sharp.
He had his own shipboard shop,his hones and strops.
I found this interesting.CAUTION

Thanks Pix! I had ot even given th\at a thought before. I would think the modern fishing fleets would have such persons also.

Yep, when you're out to sea you can't go to the local whatever shop, you have to have folks who can fix and maintain everything just like in the modern Navy.
