Thanked: 0Any particular reason razor would feel dull and shave great..
So, I have 3 razors, A Torrey, a Wester Bro's, and a gold dollar, and a zak solingen in the post.
The Wester has an awesome smile (honed by Mr. Larry) passes hht decently, and was Touched up by me on a 4/8k -> PHIG-> Crox ->.25 diamond then to to different unpasted strops
The gold dollar was phig-pasted strops-strops as well
And the torrey i honed the same way, then rehoned it from coiticle to phig to crox and either way i hone it, it feels less keen than the other 2.
And it fails hht miserably, you have to smack hairs on it to cut them, and feels smooth with no bite on the tpt.
But this thing kicks ass at shaving!!!???
I get less irritation and the same closeness as i do with the other 2 razors, and i much prefer the heft of the gd for handling, but the torrey exceeds the other 2 razors in every fashion, so its hard to even use the others.
It comes down to me thinking its blade angle, or the steel but idk im new...
Is there any reasonable explanation for this?
Ive only honed about a total of 10 times now, and straight shaving for ~6months at 4x a week

Thanked: 0Forgot to mention that the blade feels sticky when performing hht, its quite strange as if the edge were tacky, not jagged.

Have you shaved with them? That is more of a real test than the HHT, IMO.

Thanked: 0Yes shaved with all of them, the torrey is the newest acquisition. Now i cant figure out if im doing something right with the torrey, or wrong with the wester, the gold dollar is wonky all around im not too worried about that.
Or is the torrey just superior to the others?

Did you use the Coticle on all? My coticle produces a less keen edge than synthetics or my c12k but very smooth shaving.

Thanked: 4What does the logo look like on the Torrey? I have several of them, and one particular razor, with the 'whip' logo shaves as you describe. It feels dull, very comfortable, but shaves really well. In general, the Torreys are very good razors, but my 'whip' razor is actually a lower model than the rest of them.

Something is different. Trying to figure out what, and control it, is what keeps many of us up at night.

The more you hone the better you should get. The first ones I honed I could shave with but the ones I hone now are a lot better. I know I'm not I the category as Lynn Max or Ssixgun but I keep trying and so should you. you'll get better.
