Just received on of the small thuris and wondering what strokes etc are best to use with such a small hone?

    I would use X-strokes.

Believe me , the best is a circles and a x strokes , but for the fiinal clean watter finishing - circles .
It seems that circles leave very smooth and amazing shaving edge and the chance to make a mistake is lot smaller .
I have few of them amd i will soon release some of them ,to make a new place . They arevery eficient small stones most of them are blue gray and black motled .

Just a friendly reminder gentlemen. Please do not begin more of a discussion that could lead to sales talk over the releasing of some stones. Thank you.

Heel forward x strokes at a 45 degree angle as it keeps more of the blade on the hone and is more stable
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Just as you would a larger stone with a smaller strokes, basically use as you would a Barber Hone, It will work just fine, you just have to do more laps.

As usual, kind gents, cheers for help. First attempt not the greatest success. Degraded my coti edge a wee bit. Will try 45 degree strokes next time I think. Circles time after. This is such a fun hobby, so many things to try and learn. Haven't even tried couple of soaps I have as I'm trying to keep variables down while my honing improves. Never ending and rewarding fun, with only a little blood occasionally. At least it's obvious when you get a stroke or an edge wrong. May be worth mentioning for other newbs who enjoy honing with whiskey. DON'T shave until the next day. Is too good a painkiller and I don't notice too much pressure or bad angle until I see my face the next day.

for those smal Thuris is important
1 to be perfectly lapped as a single spot will catch the blade
2 chamfer and round the edjes of the stone very well , so there will be no catches also
3 light presure is Very important , just use the weight of the blade
Cirkles will help you feel the stone and then the x strokes .
Holding the stone - straighten your palm and put the stone o the palm close to the pinky finger . Work like that , stone hand hold on an open palm toward the smalest finger and with a light presure
100 guarantee for a amazing edje

Tried it just once so far. Want to max out my coti edges before moving on. When using slurry, laid razor flat on stone and it just seemed to suction on for the length of the stroke. Is this usual?Name: 20150724_174336.jpg

    dmnc,

WRT 'suction' - yes - my 125mm x 25mm Celebrated Water Hone shows such suction when the edge is just so (and with water only) - I was quite surprised that this would happen on such a small stone.

I use X-strokes and circles, and have been impressed with the finishing ability of this little stone

    Have fun

    Best regards

    Russ
