Seriously though, I wonder if you could just add a little Triclosan to the water??
If it won't eat a dish rag left in it for a week then I think a stone would be ok..

I put it in a dilute chlorine solution for a few hours - that seemed to do the trick. I have no idea what trichlosan is.
