Default DMT Sticking to the Hone

So my DMT is sticking/suctioning to my hones. To the point that it's very difficult to move it across the stones. And difficult to remove it from the hone. Is this normal? I soak each stone for just a few minutes before using it. I also leave the DMT in the water while honing. Is something wrong with the DMT? Pencil grids remove quickly and fairly evenly so I think the hones are very flat. I'm using Naniwas, 1, 3, 8, and 12k. Also I just got a Suehiro 20k.

    What's up with suctioning?

There is nothing wrong with it but the normal physics of fluid dynamics. Use the DMT under running water and that should reduce the amount of "sticktion" caused by the slurry between the two.

Yes, running water and they do seem to stick more when clogged, try cleaning with cleanser and stiff brush.

I like Bar Keepers Friend, it has Oxalic Acid, works well on Diamond plates, scrub it in and let it set few minutes, scrub again and rinse.

Just ordered some from Amazon. We'll see if it helps.

The DMT sticking to your stones is a good thing. I have Naniwas too. I lap them under a running tap. Once the pencil lines are gone and they start sticking together, it means there's no air between them, your stones are flat. At that point, you shouldn't be able to pull them directly apart, just slide the DMT off the stone under the running water.

I, too, have a DMT and the Naniwa SS stones, and I also have this "problem". I lap the stones under running water, but they still suck on to each other. Good thing it's normal.

How often should I lap my stones?

I find that mine will stick to the point of not being able to move it across the surface when there is any sort of dishing anywhere and once that is gone it moves more freely except for when I try to remove the plate. I find it nice because it lets me know when there is any dishing.
